Director's Messages

A Message from the Executive Director, Sheba Marcus-Bey
Over this last month, we’ve been busy celebrating 100 years of community engagement as a library. Now more than ever, we are busy and we are excited about our service to East Cleveland and Northeast Ohio.  In May, along with the Friends’ of East Cleveland Public Library, representatives from General Electric, East Cleveland City Government, and Mort and Iris November we were able to facilitate a Historical Marker dedication ceremony commemorating our centennial. It was wonderful…

Just as well, last weekend our Greg L. Reese Performance Art Center was the location chosen by Phyllis Mosely to honor and celebrate the lifetime achievements of three trailblazing women from the Greater Cleveland area – Retired Judge Jean Murrell Capers, Retired Judge Sara J. Harper, and Sister Juanita Shealey. The program was moderated by long standing Judge Ronald B. Adrine of the Cleveland Municipal Court and it was a historical event within its own right.

Each of these women, well beyond the age of 80 years old, spoke about the importance of their families and the value they placed on information and learning. The audience was mesmerized by their unparalleled wisdom, advocacy, and dedication. But most importantly, we learned something more about ourselves when we honored their lives. There is something of value of in everyone, and it is our task to discover ourselves.

At the East Cleveland Public Library we are committed to bridging the past, present and future.
We've planned a host of activities for youth, adults, and families that include free lunch for youth ages 0-18 years, creative writing for youth, Summer Reading Clubs for children and adults, a youth discussion group, jewelry making, and photography classes.
Our programming partners for this summer include: Lake Erie Inc., Mary Weems, the Cleveland Food Bank, Jessica Kayse and our patrons. So as we move right into the heat of Summer – we invite you to visit us here at the East Cleveland Public Library for a summer full of reading, fun, and celebration!
