Last month, on July 12, 2015, East Cleveland Public Library lost one of its greatest champions - Mr. Mort November. As we reflect on our loss, we know whole heartedly with his passing we will miss his keen sense of humor, his kind smile, and deep awareness of charity. In 2005 Mr. November was instrumental in assisting the East Cleveland Public Library, its Board, and Director with expanding the Library. The expansion included the 4,000 square foot Debra Ann November Learning Center; the Icabod Flewellen Collection to house print and non-print materials and artifacts related to the African American experience; and the Greg L. Reese Performing Arts Center.
As such, on July 24, 2005, the Library held a dedication for the new addition. In the official program the following words were expressed by the Board - “Mere words cannot express our gratitude for the generosity and involvement of Mr. Mort November and his family in leading the list of private donors to our capital campaign.”
The most recent opportunity our Library had the chance to be in the presence of Mr. Mort and Mrs. Iris November was the Ohio Historical Society Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony held in 2014 to acknowledge 100 years of library service to East Cleveland. Although he is physically gone, he has left an enduring legacy for our Library and the City of East Cleveland. Our appreciation and prayers go out to his family.
