We all know that reading is critical for a child’s success in school and life. Starting early is important. The organization, Reading is Fundamental (RIF) provide parents and educators with tips on how to encourage reading at all age levels. You can get information, games, and much more at their website, www.rif.org.
Building your child’s library
One great way to encourage reading is to help
your child build his or her own personal library. You may be able to
purchase inexpensive books in the bargain sections of bookstores, at
garage sales or flea markets, and even libraries. Libraries often have
book sales throughout the year or have on-going book sales. If you
absolutely can’t buy books, try to keep a selection of library books at
home.
The Children’s Department staff is here to help you and your children find age-appropriate books, music and videos for school or just plain fun! Stop in and say hello.
